Media Bites – June 2018

This month’s Media Bites is kind of lacking since we’ve spent most of our time house hunting for our upcoming move to Austin, but here’s a quick review of some of the movies, television shows, music, and other media that I’ve consumed and thought was worth sharing for the month of June 2018. Movies Tag – This movie was much better than I expected it to be. It was fun, funny, and had some serious moments towards the end. The best

Media Bites – May 2018

Here’s a quick review of some of the movies, television shows, music, and other media that I’ve consumed and thought was worth sharing for the month of May 2018. Movies Deadpool 2 – You don’t get to say this very often, especially in the realm of comic book movies, but for me, the sequel was better than the first one. Solo: A Star Wars Story – I went into this movie with the lowest of expectations, and was pleasantly surprised.

Media Bites – April 2018

Here’s a quick review of some of the movies, television shows, music, and other media that I’ve consumed and thought was worth sharing for the month of April 2018. Movies Ready Player One – I went into this movie mostly blind to the story or plot. I just knew that there was a ton of references (and Easter eggs) to some of my favorite pop culture items and that there was a battle between two camps – the users of

Media Bites – March 2018

Kottke.org, one of my favorite blogs, has a recurring feature called “Media Diet” where Jason Kottke lists out all of the media he’s consumed in a given time, and shares the worthwhile ones. I love that idea and want to copy it. So I am. With the clever name – Media Bites – which will hopefully be a monthly thing. In these posts I’ll include movies, music, comics, television shows, books, articles, whatever I come across that’s worth sharing. They won’t

Best of 2017

Best of 2017

Wow, what a shit show 2017 was, huh? Daily doses of idiocy from Trump and administration, countless mass shootings, hurricanes, Net Neutrality being destroyed, and so much more. But, there were a lot of great things too. We kicked off 2017 by meeting our newest nephew TJ in March, and our second niece Gia in November. We now have 2 nieces, and 5 nephews, ranging from 9 (10 next year) to 2 months. I can’t believe our oldest is going

Best of 2016

Best of 2016

Man, 2016 was a rough year. We’ve lost so many important people. Losing Bowie alone was crushing. But the rest of the musicians, actors, athletes and dignitaries that died compounded that feeling. And then add the train wreck that is President Elect Trump and man, 2016 was just the worst. I usually hate seeing end of the year posts on social media because the same people complain year after year that current year was awful and they can’t wait for

Best of 2015

Another year come and gone. Some big changes for the Rastiellos in 2015, namely I said goodbye to my friends at LyntonWeb and joined Rackspace. On top of that, we traveled to Arkansas, Chicago, and Memphis, and New Jersey twice (not to mention several road trips within Texas). We saw my youngest sister get married, and our awesome niece and nephews grow even more awesome. We celebrated Ali’s 40th birthday, and my mom’s 60th. We saw a ton of concerts,

Best of 2014

Best of 2014

2014 is slowly coming to a close. It’s been a good year. Ali and I did some traveling, hung out with friends, spoiled our niece and nephews some more, saw family, and a few weddings. Our biggest news of course is that Ali and I built and moved into our dream home in New Braunfels, just north of San Antonio. I decided to end the 2014 on this blog with my first ever “best of” list. These will be random

Bruce Springsteen Concert Recap

(Photo courtesy of Jo Lopez and BruceSpringsteen.net) Wow. Just wow. That was an amazing show. Definitely one of, if not the best, concerts I’ve ever been to. We had great seats, eleven rows behind the pit. You can kind of see how far back I was here. The arrow is the general area I was in (in the dark area). The band played for over three hours, playing the classics with a handful of newer songs and a bunch of great

Bruce Springsteen

Bruce Springsteen in Cincinnati, 2014

By the time your reading this I’ll either be on my way to or rocking out to Bruce Springsteen in concert. I’m from Jersey, our love of the Boss is engrained in us. Springsteen’s music is a history lesson. A peak back into the not too distant past. Springsteen is a little older than my parents are, and listening to him sing about his experience growing up is a like looking back at the time when my parent’s grew up. His songs told
