I am huge fan. I mean, no doy, right?. I run a Superman Tumblr. I have a six-foot tall Superman in my office. I have all the movies and tons of comics. You guys should know this by now.
An outtake from the 2012 Christmas video…
You should also know MAN OF STEEL is coming out in a few days, and I am beyond excited. You’ve probably seen my many tweets or Tumblr posts about the movie.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched the trailers and commercials (this site is missing some of the newest ones). At the end of several of them I have cheered and/or clapped.
I’m that excited.
I’m one of the few people who really liked Superman Returns. But MAN OF STEEL? I have high hopes for this movie. I was cautiously optimistic through pre-production and filming. But the trailers, commercials, and marketing? They have been amazing.
Really amazing.
I have our tickets purchased for the midnight showing on June 14th. Ali and I don’t do midnight movies anymore. We decided this after The Dark Knight. The movie was amazing, and the experience was great. There were tons of people in costume, fans everywhere sharing the moment. But, it was damn near 3:30 AM by the time we got home and we had to work the next day.
We’re too old for that shit.
But Superman? That’s the exception I told her. Any Superman movie and we’ll be there at midnight and suffer through work the following day. She didn’t argue.
We saw Superman Returns three times in the theaters. MAN OF STEEL? It’s hard to say. Probably at least three. I may opt to see it in 3D, too.
But here’s the thing. MAN OF STEEL needs to be good. No, awesome. It needs to knock everyone on their ass. Most people hated Superman Returns. MAN OF STEEL needs to be a grand slam. Superman needs it.
The general movie going public (who I usually don’t care what they think) needs to leave MAN OF STEEL with their minds blown.
Superman Returns was the first Superman movie that I saw in theaters. I was far too young to see the original movies in the theaters (I was about 6 when Superman IV came out). Superman Returns didn’t disappoint me. Say what you will about the movie, and many, many people have, but Brandon Routh’s presence on screen as Superman was awesome. It wasn’t an action packed comic movie, which was people’s number one complaint.
From what we’ve seen in the trailers and commercials there will be a ton of action in MAN OF STEEL.
Yesterday a short publicity featurette was released:
Watching that has me even more excited.
But on the chance that MAN OF STEEL doesn’t succeed, it will be a long time before we see Superman on the big screen again.
Superman needs MAN OF STEEL to be an incredible, out of the park, billion dollar success. I think it will be.
